Mumbai: A labourer was killed, and another seriously injured when a car, owned by the popular Marathi actor Urmila Kothare, ran over them in Mumbai’s Kandivli, media reports said.

The incident occurred when the actor, also known as Urmila Kanetkar, was returning home after completing a shoot, reported NDTV.

According to the police, the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle near Poisar Metro station, where two labourers were working on a Metro project, the report said.

The car ran over the workers, killing one worker at the scene, while the other was rushed to a hospital.

The driver also sustained severe injuries, while Kothare only suffered minor injuries.

Sources revealed that the car, a Hyundai Verna, was being driven at high speed, and the airbag deployed in time, which saved the actor’s life.

A case has been filed against the driver under charges including rash driving and causing death by negligence.
