Over 20,000 people of six districts of Assam affected in fresh flood
Guwahati, June 29 (IBNS): Over 20,000 people are affected in fresh flood in Assam after the flood waters submerged 20 villages in six districts of the state.
Following incessant rains in past several days, the water levels of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries have been gradually increased.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 20,000 people of South Salmara Mankachar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Dhemaji, Nalbari districts are affected in the fresh flood.
The flood waters have submerged 20 revenue villages in the six districts.
In South Salmara Mankachar district, the flood waters submerged several villages and the Kalapani police station near Hatsingimari area.
The district administrations have set up four relief camps, where around 906 flood affected people have been taken shelter.
On the other hand, the Assam government has alerted all districts to take appropriate measures.
Fifty people had died in flood in the state last year.
