Padmavaat: Karni Sena activists vandalise cinema hall in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur

Patna, Jan 18 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Angry activists of Rajput Karni Sena on Thursday vandalized a cinema hall in Bihar hours after the Supreme Court lifted ban on the release of controversial movie ‘Padmavaat’ in four BJP-ruled states.

As per media reports, the angry activists armed with lethal weapons barged into Jyoti Cinema Hall in Muzaffarpur district and tore apart the posters of the movie, besides vandalizing the hall.

The protestors threatened the other theatres with similar consequences if they dared to screen the movie, witnesses said. The movie is to be released on January 25.

The development came barely hours after the Supreme Court earlier in the day lifted a ban, imposed by four BJP-ruled states, on Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film ‘Padmaavat’ (earlier ‘Padmavati’), paving the way for the movie’s release across the country.

Despite the clearance by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the ban was imposed by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat- all ruled by the BJP.

The movie has been mired into controversy after several fringe groups, mostly Rajput Karni Sena, accused the film maker of distorting history and portraying Rani Padmini in poor light in the movie.
