Pakistan: PIA flight PK-661 carrying over 40 passengers crashes, heavy casualty feared

Islamabad, Dec 7 (IBNS): A PIA flight PK-661 carrying over 40 passengers reportedly crashed near Abbottabad In Pakistan, media reports said.

The aircraft was on its way to Islamabad from Chitral, local Dawn News reported.

PIA's ATR-42 aircraft operating as PK-661, carrying around 40 persons lost its contact with the control tower on its way from Chitral to Islamabad a short while ago," PIA Spokesman Daniyal Gilani tweeted.

The network quoted Global aviation watchdog Aviation Herald as saying that the crash took place due to engine problems.

Pakistani singer-cum-evangelist Junaid Jamshed, his family, and Deputy Commissioner of Chitral, Osama Warraich were confirmed to be on board the flight and are expected to be ones among the casualties.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered a rescue operation.
