Patna boat tragedy: Mass cremation moves villagers to tears

Patna, Jan 15 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): It created a poignant scene on Sunday when the grieving villagers lined up to cremate bodies of their near and dear ones who lost their lives in Saturday boat mishap in Patna.

The common people moved to tears to see the cremation site at Gulbi Ghat filled to the brim with the bodies of boat mishap victims and the grieving families with tonsured heads busy cremating them all over.

There were many victims who had none to perform their last rites while there were some who had only a few left in the family to mourn.

The bodies came reaching the cremation site quite early in the morning and by noon it captured every inch.

As many as 25 people died after an overcrowded boat sank in river Ganga today. The incident took place near NIT ghat in Patna on Saturday evening.

Officials said the victims were returning homes after participating in the kite flying festival organized by the tourism department when the boat sank.

Witnesses said the boat sank since it was overcrowded. As per reports, the boat was carrying more than 70 people against the maximum capacity of 40.

The Opposition party has blamed government’s negligence for the incident and asked the chief minister to own responsibility for the tragedy.
