Peace process with India suspended: Abdul Basit

| | Apr 08, 2016, at 01:15 am
New Delhi, Apr 7 (IBNS) In a significant development, Pakistan high commissioner Abdul Basit on Thursday said peace process between neighbouring nations India and Pakistan has been "suspended".

"There is no meeting scheduled for now," Basit was quoted as saying by media.

"I think at present the peace process is suspended," he said.

Speaking on possible Indian investigation team's visit to Pakistan to probe the Pathankot attack, Basit said: "The visit of the Pakistani probe team to Pathankot is not about reciprocity."

Six  terrorists had attacked the air base  in India's Pathankot area on Jan 2. Security forces were engaged in 80 hours gun-battle with the militants.

India has blamed Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed for the attack.

Meanwhile, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) from Pakistan, who was in India, probing the Pathankot Airbase terror attack and is due to submit their report to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reportedly disowned the attack by their nation, terming it a vicious propaganda by India, according to Pakistani media.

Pakistan Today reported that a source close to the JIT said that the attack was staged by India to malign its neighbour.

"A source privy to the details of the report said the JIT report has concluded that the Indian authorities had prior information about the attackers,"  Pakistan Today reported.

"He said that India used the attack as a tool to expand its 'vicious propaganda' against Pakistan 'without having any solid evidence to back the claim'," it said.

The team had visited Pathankot on Mar 27. The team included on  Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officer.
