People are suffering: Mamata Banerjee on currency ban

Kolkata, Nov 14 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said people in the country are 'suffering' due to the Centre's decision to ban s. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes last week.

The Trinamool Congress supremo said she will meet President Pranab Mukherjee over the issue on Wednesday.

"The situation is serious. Very grim. People are suffering. We will meet the Hon. President tomorrow, no matter what #DeMonetisation," Banerjee tweeted.

Meanwhile, to foil the attempts of some to turn black money into white amid the nationwide demonetisation crisis, banks have been directed by the union government to use indelible ink while exchanging banned Rs. 500 and 1,000 notes, said media reports on Tuesday.

Banerjee attacked the Centre over this move and tweeted: "Desperate attempt to start a 'black mechanism' with indelible ink shows this govt distrusts the common people... 1/2 #DeMonetisation."

On Monday, PM Modi had asked the people to keep patience for 50 more days even as they are having to bear with the immediate consequences of demonetisation that has scrapped old Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 notes.
