Play fiercely with full might: PM Modi to Indian contingent for CWG 2022
New Delhi/UNI: Interacting with the Indian contingent bound for Commonwealth Games 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday asked players to "play fiercely, with full might and without any tension."
"The coming 10-15 days are a golden opportunity for Indian players to dominate the world. I wish all the very best to all the players," the Prime Minister said.
"Play fiercely, with full might and play without any tension. You must have heard that dialogue – koi nahin hai takkar main, kahan pade ho chakkar main (There is no challenger, so don't be in a delusion). You have to play with this attitude," he added.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that over 65 athletes who are taking part in the tournament for the first time, will also make a lasting impression at the Commonwealth Games.
Today is International Chess Day, it is interesting that on July 28, the day when the Commonwealth Games begin, Chess Olympiad at Mahabalipuram will also begin the same day, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister discussed various aspects of the games and patiently heard athletes sharing their experiences.
Avinash Sable told the Prime Minister how his training in the Indian Army helped him prepare for steeplechase. Anchita Shuli of West Bengal told how he keeps calm and gains strength for weightlifting training by practicing yoga.
Representing India in Badminton, Treesa Jolly from Kerala, spoke about how her father motivated her to play the sport.
The Prime Minister lauded Salima Tete, a hockey player from Jharkhand, for her performance at the Tokyo Olympics and encouraged her to perform in a similar manner at the Commonwealth Games.
Para-athlete Sharmila from Haryana recounted the story of her determination to overcome all hurdles to play for the country. Modi applauded her spirit and perseverance.
David Beckham of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands sheds light on how Prime Minister Modi motivated him by mentioning his success during Mann ki Baat, and also mentioned the importance of Khelo India in supporting Indian athletes.
"This is one of the best times for sports in India. Indian athletes are achieving and breaking new records. The Commonwealth Games team is unique as it has a unique combination of experience and youthful zest. All athletes are brand ambassadors of New India," the Prime Minister concluded.
