PM Modi, Amit Shah sacrificing their lives for Delhi polls: Shiv Sena takes jibe at BJP

Mumbai/IBNS: Just a day ahead of the crucial assembly elections in the national capital, the Shiv Sena targetted its former political bed-fellow Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are "sacrificing their lives" for the Delhi polls after losing power in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

In its editorial Saamana, the Sena said, "It seems like PM Modi and HM Shah are sacrificing their lives for the Delhi elections. Maharashtra slipped out of their hands and they faced defeat in Jharkhand as well. Now they have their eyes on Delhi and want to flutter their flag in the national capital."

Also the Sena came out in praise for Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal saying the latter has overshadowed the battery of BJP leaders including its 200 MPs and all cabinet members who were fielded in Delhi for campaigning.

The Sena's words resonate Kejriwal's latest jibe where he had said, "I am small man. I have a small party. Why they have brought 70 MPs, 11 Chief Ministers, Prime Minister, Home Minister to defeat me?"

The Delhi polls are crucial for the BJP certainly as the saffron brigade lost control in five states- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand- in last one year or so.

Of course the BJP had emerged as the single largest party in Maharashtra before its fallout with then ally Sena, but the party had suffered electoral losses in the rest four irrespective of its successful Lok Sabha elections.

In Delhi, while the AAP mainly depended on the developmental agendas staying away from the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protests in Shaheen Bagh, the BJP took a ride in nationalistic agendas to campaign for the polls.

Posing unperturbed by the challenges, Shah on Thursday, which was the last day of campaigning, claimed the results of the Delhi polls will shock everyone.

The national capital will vote on Saturday while the results will be declared on Feb 11.
