PM Modi congratulates new British PM Theresa May

New Delhi, July 14 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Theresa May after the latter was named as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

"Congratulations to @theresa_may on taking over as the new UK PM. Looking forward to working with her for stronger India-UK ties @Number10gov," Modi tweeted.

May became only the second female Prime Minister of the UK after Margaret Thatcher. May, the former leader of the conservative party, took on her new post after David Cameron, the former Prime Minister bit the Brexit bullet and resigned.

PM Modi also thanked Cameron for his contribution towards India.

"I also appreciate the significant contribution of @David_Cameron in strengthening India-UK ties," he tweeted.
