New Delhi, Mar 18 (IBNS); Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Trivendra Singh Rawat, the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

"Congratulations to Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat & the entire team sworn in today. Am sure they will work hard & fulfil people's aspirations,' the Prime Minister's tweet read.

"The new Uttarakhand government will return the tremendous affection shown by the people of the state with record development," a subsequent tweet added.

Trivendra Singh Rawat was sworn-in as Uttarakhand Chief Minister on Saturday at a glittering ceremony in Dehradun.

Along with Rawat, several members of his cabinet also took the oath.

Governor Krishan Kant Paul administered the oath of office and secrecy.

The ceremony, held at the Parade Ground, was attended by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP chief Amit Shah, among others.

On Friday, the BJP MLAs elected Rawat as their leader.

Rawat, 57, was elected to the state Assembly from Doiwala constituency as he defeated Congress's Hira Singh Bisht by a margin of over 24,000 votes.

Rawat, a Thakur leader, who is said to be close to RSS, the ideological mentor of BJP, was among the frontrunners for Uttarakhand CM's post.

He is also known for his proximity to the BJP chief.
