Rome/New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday joined other G20 leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and French President Emmanuel Macron, on a visit to Trevi Fountain in Rome and tossed a coin into the wishing well for people, planet and prosperity.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted a picture of the leaders standing in front of Trevi Fountain, a landmark in Rome, for a photo op, and each tossing a coin into the fountain waters.

“The G20 leaders at Trevi Fountain, one of the landmarks in Rome. For people, planet and prosperity, leaders toss a coin in the wishing well of the Fountain,” he tweeted.

The G20 leaders were in a light mood as they stood around the fountain, chatting and admiring the Roman art.

The leaders will proceed to Roma Convention Centre to attend Day 2 of the 16th G20 Summit. There are two sessions today, Session II on Climate Change and Environment, and Session III on Sustainable Development, which is a working lunch.

In the evening there is a side event, Global Summit on Supply Chain Resilience, being hosted by the US President Joe Biden.

PM Modi is to hold a bilateral meeting with the Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. A bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel is likely.

He will leave in the evening for Glasgow to attend the COP26 Leaders' Summit.
