PM Modi mourns death of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi

New Delhi, Feb 28 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mourned the death of the 69th pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt, Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi, who died on Wednesday at an age of 82.

Modi has put up two tweets to remember Shankaracharya.

In the first tweet, Modi said: "Deeply anguished by the passing away of Acharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Jagadguru Pujyashri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya. He will live on in the hearts and minds of lakhs of devotees due to his exemplary service and noblest thoughts. Om Shanti to the departed soul."

"Jagadguru Pujyashri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya was at the forefront of innumerable community service initiatives. He nurtured institutions which transformed the lives of the poor and downtrodden.," his second tweet reads.

Shankaracharya passed away after being admitted to a hospital with complaints of breathing problem.

His health condition was poor for the greater part of the last year.

He was the head of the mutt which was established by Adi Shankaracharya.

The mutt was established in the 5th century.
