PM Modi, President Kovind pay tributes to former President Zakir Husain on birth anniversary

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday paid tributes to former Indian President late Zakir Husain on his birthday anniversary.

Modi tweeted: "India remembers Dr. Zakir Husain on his birth anniversary. His contribution towards India’s freedom movement was tremendous. He also distinguished himself as a scholar and educationist."

Kovind has paid floral tribute to Husain, who was the third Indian President.

Husain served as the President between 1967 and 1969 when late Indira Gandhi was the PM of the country.

He was also the second Vice President of the country between 1962 and 1967 and the Bihar Governor between 1957 and 1962.

In a tweet, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said: "Remembering former President Zakir Husain on his birth anniversary."
