New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and reviewed the situation due to a tragic landslide in the state.

"Spoke to Manipur CM Shri @NBirenSingh Ji and reviewed the situation due to a tragic landslide. Assured all possible support from the Centre. I pray for the safety of all those affected," PM Modi tweeted.

"My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon," he wrote.

A massive landslide that occurred Wednesday midnight in Noney district killed two Territorial Army (TA) personnel.

Several were reported to be missing.

Massive rescue operations were launched Thursday by the Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and the people of the area.

Helicopters will be used for rescue operations when the weather is clear, defence officials said.

The landslide also blocked the Ezei river which flows in Noney district about 50 km from Imphal.
