PM Modi to chair virtual meeting with CMs and LGs of 8 worst Covid-hit states

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a virtual meeting on Tuesday with the Chief Ministers of eight worst Covid-hit states and union territories to discuss the coronavirus situation, said a media report.

The Prime Minister is expected to ask the chief ministers the reason behind the surge in Covid-19 states and the measures taken to curb the spread of the infection, sources told NDTV.

The meeting is expected to start at 10: 30 am and be held in two parts. In the first part the PM will interact with the CMs and the LGs and in the second part he will discuss the vaccine delivery, which is also the primary focus of the meeting, added the report.

While Delhi, Kerala and Maharashtra continue to report the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the country, many smaller states like Manipur, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat are witnessing a sudden spike in fresh infections.

India, one of the worst COVID-19 hit nations in the world, added 44,059 new cases and 511 deaths in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of Health data released on Monday.

The total number of Coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 91,39,866.

Delhi recorded 6,746 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, followed by Maharashtra-5,200 cases and Kerala-5,700 cases respectively. West Bengal recorded almost 3,600 cases followed by Rajasthan which witnessed 3,260 new cases.
