New Delhi, May 26 (IBNS): After registering a landslide victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election and returning to power for the second straight term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will visit his constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to thank the voters.

"I will be in Kashi to thank the people of this great land for reposing their faith in me," Modi said in a tweet.

During his day-long visit, Modi is scheduled to offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple and address a public meeting.

As his Thanksgiving visit will reportedly include a road show, the security has been beefed up at Kashi Vishwanath temple and at Hastkala Shakul at Bara Lalpur.

President Kovind appoints Narendra Modi as Prime Minister:

President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s parliamentary party leader Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the country.

Modi assumed the Prime Minister's office for the second straight term.

"Exercising powers vested in him under Article 75 (1) of the Constitution of India, President Kovind, today appointed @narendramodi to the office of Prime Minister of India," the President tweeted.

Earlier, the BJP's parliamentary party had appointed Modi as their leader.

"A letter stating that @narendramodi had been elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party was handed over to the President. Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President," the President tweeted.

The BJP, under the leadership of Modi and party president Amit Shah, scripted a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls by winning 303 seats.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) got 352 seats.
