PM Modi urges jewellery sector to combine Design in India with Made in India
The Prime Minister said Surat has made a mark in the diamond industry but there is now need to look at the entire gems and jewellery sector.
He said that as far as the gems and jewellery sector is concerned, the aim should not only be ‘Make in India’ but also 'Design in India'.
The PM's Office tweeted Narendra Modi as saying, "As far as the gems and jewellery sector is concerned our aim should not only be @makeinindia but also 'Design in India'."
The Prime Minister arrived in Gujarat, his home state, on Sunday, on a two-day visit to the state.
Earlier on Monday, he inaugurated the Kiran Multi-Speciality Hospital.
The Prime Minister described the effort devoted towards making the hospital as “commendable”, and added that the state-of-the-art hospital would benefit citizens.
He emphasized that the poor must have access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Media reports quoted the PM as saying that his government will ensure that doctors prescribe only generic medicines to break monopoly of big medicine outlets.
In this context he also talked about the Union Government’s initiatives to bring down the prices of medicines, stents etc.
Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel were also present at the inauguration.
Calling for focus on preventive healthcare, the Prime Minister said that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is linked to efforts towards a healthier India.
