PM Narendra Modi congratulates the winners of Smart City Challenge
"Congrats to winners of Smart City Challenge. I wish the cities the very best as they move forward with implementation and transform urban India," Modi tweeted.
"I thank all those who took part in the comprehensive deliberations on various forums to decide winners of Smart City Challenge," the Prime Minister said.
Bhubaneswar topped the list of the first 20 cities to win the 'smart city' tag as announced by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday.
Twenty Indian towns and cities were selected from the 97 towns and cities that had been chosen for the Smart City project in August after a competition between states.
The cities that have made it to the top 20 are Bhuvaneswar, Pune, Jaipur, Surat, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Jabalpur, Visakhapatnam, Solapur, Dhavangiri, Indore, the New Delhi area, Coimbatore, Kakinada, Belgaum, Udaipur, Guwahati, Chennai, Ludhiana and Bhopal.
All the states were asked to submit names, of cities that were judged on their service levels, infrastructure and track record
