The prime minister inaugurated this Rs 2447 crore worth project at a function held here at Khujari maidan.

Mr Modi was accompanied by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya.

The National Highway-2 connects two oldest cities - Prayag (Prayagraj) and Kashi (Varanasi). It is also a major part of the Golden Quadrilateral Project-1 (Delhi-Kolkata corridor).

The 73 kilometres long highway has five elevated flyovers, three flyovers, 10 underpasses for vehicles and 12-foot underpasses.

Earlier, the journey between these two cities used to take about three and a half hours, however, after the completion of this project, the journey will be reduced to one and a half hours.
