New Delhi/Hiroshima: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima.

The PMO tweeted two pictures of the meeting, one showing the two leaders shaking hands, and the other of the bilateral meeting, where besides PM Modi the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval could also be seen.

This is their first in-person meeting since the Ukraine conflict began in February last year.

The two leaders have spoken on the phone a few times, during which PM Modi has exhorted Moscow and Kyiv to end the violence and go in for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the issues.

The PMO in a tweet said: “PM @narendramodi held talks with President @ZelenskyyUa during the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima.”

Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian President arrived at Hiroshima to attend the summit.

He posted a message on social media, saying, "Japan. G7. Important meetings with partners and friends of Ukraine."
