PM thanks Nawaz Sharif over evacuation of 11 Indians from Yemen

New Delhi Apr 8 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif as the neighbouring nation evacuated and ferried 11 Indians from strife-torn Yemen.

Thanking Sharif, Modi tweeted, "I welcome our 11 citizens who've returned from Yemen with assistance from Pakistan. Thank you PM Nawaz Sharif for your humanitarian gesture."

Sharif on Tuesday offered to send evacuated 11 Indians to the country by a special aircraft.

India had accepted the offer.

"A Pakistani Navy ship, PNS Aslat carrying 182 Persons, including 11 Indian nationals reached Karachi from Yemen on 7 April 2015. The Prime Minister, in the spirit of promoting cooperative ties with neighboring countries, made an offer for providing a special aircraft to facilitate their return to their country. The offer was accepted by the Indian side," Pakistan's

Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

"While onboard, facilitation and courtesy was extended to Indian nationals by the personnel of the Pakistan Navy. The Special aircraft carrying the Indian nationals flew from Karachi today at 1600 hours for New Delhi," it said.

Meanwhile, speaking on the evacuation performed by India from Yemen, Modi tweeted:"Service to humanity knows no borders. Glad we helped many countries in evacuation from Yemen."

"The help India extended included help to our neighbours Bangladesh, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan & Sri Lanka," he said.
