PM's Kedaranth visit: TMC complaints to ECI citing code violation

| @indiablooms | May 19, 2019, at 01:02 pm

New Delhi/Kolkata, May 19 (IBNS): A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand to offer prayer, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has complained to the Election Commission against the "widely televised' trip stating it was a complete breach of Model Code of Conduct.

In a letter to the ECI, the TMC alleged that "...Even though the Election Campaign for the last phase of polling for 2019 Lok Sabha is over as long as back on 17th May, 2019 at 6 pm, surprisingly Shri Narendra Modi's Kedarnath Yatra is being covered and widely televised for the last two days in all national as well as local media. This is a gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct."

"He even announced that the Master Plan for the Kedarnath Temple is ready and also addressed the public and the media at Kedarnath. Lt is absolutely unethical and morally incorrect," said the letter signed by Trinamool parliamentarian Derek O'Brien.

After finishing his campaigns for the Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi visited the Kedarnath Temple in Uttarkhand on Saturday.

Modi offered prayers to Lord Shiva.

The campaign for the last phase of Lok Sabha polls ended on Friday evening. Voting will take place on Sunday.

The Prime Minister's constituency Varanasi  is voting on Sunday.

Modi is once again fighting the polls from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.

He also visited the Badrinath Temple on Sunday.

The poll results will come out on May 23.
