Police arrests missing Kangan youth from Kupwara
Srinagar, May 3 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested a youth, who was reported missing since April 28 from central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, along with arms and ammunition in frontier district of Kupwara.
A police spokesperson said that following specific information, police, along with security forces, intercepted a person at a checkpoint near Chowgal.
''During checking, police recovered incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition from him,'' he said.
He said the arrested person was later identified as Shafat Yousuf Malik, a resident of Kangan in Ganderbal.
''Malik was ferrying arms and ammunition for militants and was on way to join Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). ''As such, he has been restrained from joining the militant outfit,'' the spokesperson said.
Malik had left home for SHMS hospital in Srinagar on April 28 for a medical checkup but did not return home.
The spokesperson said after searching for Malik for about two days, the family filed a missing complaint at Kangan Police station on April 30.
''Police had registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the whereabouts of the youth,'' he said.
Malik’s family had on Thursday sought help from general public in finding his whereabouts.
