Police drain out water from pond in Mehrauli as search for Shraddha's body parts continues

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday started pumping out water from a pond located in Mehrauli region in the national capital New Delhi after Aaftab Amin Poonawala claimed he threw certain body parts, including the head, of his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar in it, media reports said.

It was the third day of the search operation of the Delhi Police and it claimed to have recovered some bones possibly of the skull and other body parts from the forest areas of Mehrauli and Gurugram in the Delhi-NCR region, reports Hindustan Times.

Whether they belong to Shraddha Walkar will be confirmed after forensic analysis, the newspaper reported.

Police said it is believed that Aaftab killed Shraddha in the heat of the moment.

“Although we have reasons to believe that Poonawala killed Walkar in a fit of rage, he claimed that he panicked after she died. He then spent all night planning the ways he could dispose of the body without getting caught by local residents or the police. He then recalled all that he had seen on TV shows, including Dexter, and decided to put them to use,” an investigator, citing Poonawala’s revelations, told Hindustan Times.

Aaftab Ameen Poonawala has now been charged of killing her live-in girlfriend and chopping her body into 35 pieces.

What is the case all about?

In a shocking case, Aaftab Ameen Poonawala allegedly strangled his live-in partner, then chopped her body into 35 pieces, stored them in his fridge and dumped them in Delhi's Mehrauli forest over 18 days, media reports said.

He got away with the murder for five to six months.

Every morning at 2 am, he would step out to dump the body parts, reports said.

The 28-year-old has been sent to five days in police custody after he was arrested from his flat.

For 18 days after murdering Shraddha on May 18, Aaftab disposed of the pieces in different areas of the Mehrauli forest, they added.

During the questioning, Aaftab told the police that he and Shraddha had a rocky relationship and often indulged in fights.

He said that Shraddha had been pressuring him to get married and they would frequently quarrel about it.
