Polling begins for first phase of Bihar polls

Patna, Oct 12 (IBNS): Voting for the first phase of assembly elections in Bihar to decide the fates of candidates in 49 constituencies started on Monday morning.

The constituencies, which are spread across nine districts, will see 1,35,72,339 voters  deciding the fates of 583 candidates.

The five phase polls will end on Nov 5.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh   cast his vote in Bihar's  Barahiya area.

The polls assumes significance as it will witness a battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Janata Dal (United) , the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

During the campaigning, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi  had regularly exchanged barbs which had set the tone for a crucial Assembly polls in the state.
