Presidential poll: SBSP to support NDA nominee Draupadi Murmu

Lucknow/UNI: In a sudden change of heart, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party(SBSP) president Om Prakash Rajbhar Friday announced support for NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu in the July 18 polls.

The decision of the SBSP shows its annoyance with Samajwadi Party, with whom it contested 2022 assembly polls and won six seats.

A bitter critic of BJP and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Rajbhar's decision gives indication that the SBSP could ally with the BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Rajbhar though addressing the media here clarified that SBSP is still an SP ally and just took the decision for the key presidential candidate.

He also disclosed that he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi recently where the BJP leader sought his support for Murmu. "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath too urged me to support Murmu," he said.

Rajbhar also expressed his annoyance with SP president Akhilesh Yadav, saying that during the visit of opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha in Lucknow on July 7, he was ignored.

"All my legislators were in Lucknow to attend the meeting of Yashwant Sinha on July 7 but we were not invited," he said, adding that later Akhilesh Yadav clarified that the meeting with Sinha was SP's internal matter.

In the press meet though Rajbhar indirectly hit out at Akhilesh Yadav and his coterie who were responsible for defeat in the Azamgarh LS bypolls.
