Prez accepts Ashwani Kumar's resignation as Nagaland Guv
Mukherjee has appointed Meghalaya Governor Krishan Kant Paul to take the additional responsibility of Nagaland.
"The President has accepted the resignation of Dr. Ashwani Kumar as Governor of Nagaland and has appointed Dr. Krishan Kant Paul, Governor of Meghalaya, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Nagaland are made," a press communique by the President's Secretariat said.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah has been appointed to discharge the functions of Governor of Karnataka.
"Shri K. Rosaiah, Governor of Tamil Nadu, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Karnataka, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Karnataka are made vice Shri H.R. Bhardwaj, who completes his tenure on 28.06.2014," a communique said.
Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman has been entrusted the additional responsibility of Tripura.
"Shri Vakkom Purushothaman, Governor of Mizoram, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Tripura, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Tripura are made vice Shri Devanand Konwar, who completes his tenure on 28.06.2014," the statement said.
Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar resigned from his post days after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Kumar on Monday said he has informed Singh that he wants to resign from his political chair.
Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said new Governors will be appointed soon.
"We will decide on the appointment of new Governors in three to four days," Singh told media.
West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan has reportedly told Singh that he needs more time to make up his mind.
On the other hand, Puducherry Governor Virendra Kataria also met Singh on Monday.
Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt resigned from his political chair on June 19.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Governor Banwari Lal Joshi, Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj and Assam Governor JB Patnaik resigned from their posts on June 17.
Joshi sent his resignation letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), while Bhardwaj and Patnaik met President Pranab Mukherjee and submitted their papers.
According to reports, all the Governors, who were appointed by the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, are likely to resign from their posts.
This came after reports said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government might change Governors in five states.
Pertinently, the Governors in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal were appointed by the previous UPA government.
