Prez and PM greet people on Guru Nanak Jayanti

New Delhi, Nov 25 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, greeted the people of India on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Modi wrote on Twitter: "On Guru Nanak Jayanti, my greetings to everyone. Guru Nanak Dev's message of service, compassion & harmony inspire eternally." 

The President wrote: "On the joyous occasion of the birthday of Guru Nanak Devji, I convey greetings & good wishes to all my fellow countrymen."

Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh clan, is the first of the ten Gurus of the Sikhs who lived in 15th century India.

"Guru Nanak Devji believed that service of man is supreme," the President wrote.

Citing Guru Nanak, the President urged the people to lead a harmonious life.

"He called upon all people to lead a moral and righteous life . May each one of us imbibe the revered Guru’s noble teachings of brotherhood, compassion and love."

President Mukherjee also urged the people to help the poor and the needy.

"Let us dedicate ourselves to the service of the downtrodden. Let us erase suspicion & hatred from our hearts and banish all violence from thought, word & deed."
