Priyanka Gandhi of no help to Congress: Jaitley
"One incumbent of family fails and the Congress looks for the alternative within the family. I don't think it will be any help," Jaitley was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.
Priyanka on Monday said her family, including her mother, party president Sonia Gandhi and her brother, party vice president Rahul Gandhi, never stopped her from contesting elections.
Rubbing reports that she wanted to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi seat against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Priyanka told CNN-IBN: "I have always said my focus is on the two seats of Amethi and Rae Bareli and that remains the case."
"My brother, mother and husband (Robert Vadra) would wholeheartedly support me if I ever wanted to," she said.
"This is entirely my own personal decision and I will change it only when I feel from within me that I should," added Priyanka.
Earlier on Monday, The Economic Times reported that Priyanka wanted to contest elections from Varanasi but the Congress leadership stopped her.
"Priyanka Gandhi is reliably learned to have been very keen to be the Congress candidate in the holy city. But the party leadership finally decided against fielding her," reported the newspaper.
