Priyanka Gandhi throws challenge to PM Modi as 'Delhi girl'

New Delhi, May 8 (IBNS): Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday responded to the challenge and countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi with her own one.

During her roadshow in Delhi, Priyanka Gandhi said: "A Delhi girl is openly challenging you. Contest the last two phases based on notebandi, GST, women's safety and unfulfilled promises to the youth."

PM Modi had earlier dared the Congress to contest the final rounds of the Lok Sabha election on Rajiv Gandhi's image.

The verbal spat started after PM Modi had attacked Rahul Gandhi and said his father was 'Bhrashtachari No 1' (corrupt number 1).

"Your father was termed 'Mr Clean' by his courtiers, but his life ended as 'Bhrashtachari No 1' (corrupt number 1)," Modi said at a rally in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Modi's comment was linked to the corruption allegations against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi related to another defence deal - the purchase of Bofors guns in the 1980s.

However, Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated in 1991 by Sri Lankan rebels, had got a clean chit from the court in connection with the Bofors case.

The Delhi High Court had said there was no evidence to prove that Rajiv Gandhi accepted bribes and eventually it dismissed all charges against him.

The remark by PM Modi was condemned by Rajiv Gandhi's daughter and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi.
