Priyanka Gandhi vacates govt bungalow in Delhi's Lutyens’ zone after more than two decades
New Delhi/IBNS: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has vacated the bungalow, allotted to her by the Central government, in New Delhi’s Lutyens’ zone, said media reports.
The Congress General Secretary UP (East) vacated the accommodation at 35, Lodhi Estate, said news agency ANI. Earlier this month, she had cleared her pending dues after the Centre announced she was no longer entitled to the plush bungalow.
The directorate of estate department of the ministry of housing and urban affairs had issued a notice to Gandhi on July 1, asking her to vacate the bungalow as she is no longer protected by Special Protection Group (SPG) and hence not eligible to occupy the property.
“Any stay beyond 01.08.2020 will attract damage charges/penal rent as per rules,” the department had said in its order.
The current rules no longer provide for allotment or retention of government accommodation to those with Z+ security unless recommended by the Home Ministry.
The 35, Lodhi Estate bungalow in New Delhi was allotted to Priyanka Gandhi in 1997.
Central government bungalows are allotted through General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Act under the administrative control of the directorate of estates.
