Pune Porsche case: Order to release accused teen given in absence of JJB members, says panel

Dr. LN Danwade, the JJB's non-judicial member, granted bail to the 17-year-old teen, who allegedly drove the Porsche that killed two IT engineers, within 15 hours of the accident, NDTV reported.

In a 100-page report to the Social Justice Department, the committee highlighted several red flags in Dr. Danwade's handling of the case.

It is noteworthy, he failed to consider the flaws in the blood report, which did not come from the police.

The JJB did not follow the standard practice of creating a roster, and Dr. Danwade made the decision to release the accused teen "in haste."

The committee noted that the bail order should have been issued only in the presence of more JJB members, but Dr. Danwade was the sole JJB representative present in court at the time.

The committee believes the JJB Bench would have overturned the bail order the next day due to the evident flaws.

They have been served show cause notices and asked to respond to all the red flags pointed out.

The teenager, driving the Porsche, is the son of a builder. According to the police, the teen was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The teenager's parents are in police custody for allegedly swapping his blood samples at the state-run Sassoon General Hospital.

At first, the bail terms required the teen to write a 300-word essay on road safety and post bonds worth Rs 15,000.

However, after widespread public outrage and police stating that the boy would be charged as an adult, these terms were modified, and he was sent to a remand home.
