Rahul Gandhi's allegations are baseless: Prasad

New Delhi, Dec 21 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday rejected Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had received kickbacks from two business groups.

Addressing the media, union minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said: "I condemn the shameless and baseless allegations of Rahul Gandhi, country will reject it."

"He kept hurling accusations on the Prime Minister who is pure like the Ganga," he said.

Prasad attacked Gandhi and said he is the biggest patron of corruption.

"Rahul Gandhi is the biggest patron of corruption in the last ten years of (Congress) being in power," he said.

Referring to the alleged scams that had emerged during the former Congress-led UPA rule, Prasad said: "Congress has not spared the sky, the space, the land, the sea, anything in indulging in corruption."

Mentioning the National Herald case, Prasad said: "He himself is on bail in the Rs 5000 crore National Herald case. His brother in law is also involved in land scam."

Prasad said Gandhi cannot influence the AugustaWestland case by hurling accusations against the PM endlessly.

An Italian court investigated the contract because Augusta's parent company is Finmeccanica, an Italian defence manufacturer, and decided that vast amounts of bribes were routed to India by company executives to land the deal for 12 VVIP helicopters for about Rs. 3,600 crore.

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of taking kickbacks from two business groups, which, however, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) negated.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that Modi had received crores in kickbacks when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Addressing the rally, Rahul Gandhi said: "In 6 months time, Sahara people have given money to PM Modi nine times."

He said: "Similarly, there is a record of Birla (Group) paying."
