Rahul praise: Maneka warns son Varun
"I told Varun not to comment on anything which you have not seen yourself. What he said is not right. There is no ground work in Amethi," Maneka Gandhi told media.
Soon after Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he is happy with his cousin Varun Gandhi appreciating his work in Amethi, the latter reacted immediately on Twitter to set his records straight.
"My comment, last night, in a meeting with teachers and NGOs, in response to being asked whether I knew about initiatives in Amethi, was that although I had not seen the work done via self help groups in Amethi, I had heard it was fairly decent, and that I would stress on empowering people towards being self-reliant," tweeted Varun Gandhi.
"It should NOT be seen as an endorsement of any political party or candidate," posted Varun Gandhi.
According to reports and TV footage,Varun Gandhi appreciated Rahul Gandhi for implementation of schemes that helped small scale industries in Amethi.
BJP senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said he would not comment on the remarks of Varun Gandhi since he has not seen or heard it.
Rahul Gandhi earlier in the day said: "Well, what we have done in Amethi continuously was strategically done. We started education hub foundation and food park for farmers. So what Varun is saying is right."
"I am very happy that other people are appreciating the work we have done in Amethi," he said, adding that he has worked to connect the farmers of Amethi with the rest of the world.
Rahul Gandhi said he worked seriously to develop Amethi agriculturally and educationally and worked for the women of the area.
"I have a relationship with the people of Amethi. It is for them to respond," said Rahul Gandhi on his own candidature from Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
