Rahul questions timing of ED action against Sharad Pawar, says NCP chief victim of vindictive government

New Delhi: Training his gun against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the timing of Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s action against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar in connection with the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam.

Rahul in a tweet on Friday said Pawar is the latest victim of the "vindictive government".

The Congress leader tweeted, "Sharad Pawar Ji is the latest Opposition leader to be targeted by a vindictive Government. The timing of this action, a month before elections in Maharashtra, reeks of political opportunism."

Pawar, a key opposition leader in the Maharashtra politics right now, has been named in the case with just few weeks left for the state polls which will be held in October.

The ED has registered a money laundering case against Pawar, his nephew Ajit Pawar and several other politicians in MSCB scam of worth Rs. 25,000 crore.

Though the ED didn't summon Pawar, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister has decided to visit the office of the probe agency on Friday.
