Rahul takes break from politics, triggers speculations
New Delhi, Feb 23 (IBNS): Following some crucial electoral debacles of late, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has taken a brief break from politics in an attempt to 'reflect on recent events', sparking several speculations and criticisms.
Rahul is on a few days' leave, Congress President Sonia told news channels when asked about Rahul Gandhi's absence from party affairs.
"Rahul is on a few days' leave... He has already left on leave. Give him a few weeks," Sonia told Headlines Today.
She refused to elaborate more on the matter.
Rahul Gandhi's absence from party affairs and the ongoing Budget Session of the Parliament on Monday invited severe criticisms from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur told media: "It is for him to decide what the priority is. They have been missing and that is why people have thrown them out."
"They were missing in the last two Lok Sabhas as well. And this is why the Congress has come to 44 seats in Lok Sabha," he said.
Rahul has taken leave from party work and won't be attending the session or even lead the party's agitation on the Land Acquisition Ordinance.
Amid various other speculations, Rahul was upset over his views and strategies being rejected by party veterans, said reports.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi, however, rejected the speculations and said he "condemns and denies such unjustifiable" questions.
"He (Rahul) believes that the AICC session (expected in the first week of April) is vital and he would like to give specific inputs on this. He wants to do introspection with what happened with regard to Congress in recent times and earlier," Singhvi told mediapersons.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, whose party faced poll debacles on after another, is reportedly on leave to reflect on recent events, said media reports.
According to an NDTV report, Rahul Gandhi has "requested Congress President Sonia Gandhi for some time to reflect on recent events and future course of the party".
The report said with the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session scheduled in April, he has sought time to think on what direction the party will take.
The channel quoting sources reported that Rahul Gandhi has been "granted a leave of absence for a few weeks after which he will return and resume his active participation in the affairs of the Congress party."
Rahul Gandhi has always been seen as a reluctant Prince of the Congress party. He has so far failed to woo voters with the Congress in the recently held Delhi polls scoring a zilch.
