Rail link to Tripura snapped following landslides in Dima Hasao, thousand passengers stranded at Lumding
Guwahati, June 15 (IBNS): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) has suspended five passenger trains following several new landslide incidents in Assam’s Lumding-Silchar hill section on Friday morning, snapping rail connectivity to Tripura and parts of Assam's Barak valley.
The NF Railway authority has cancelled five passenger trains in the hills section between Lumding-Silchar due to landslides at several places and damage of tracks between New Haflong-Migrendisa Mahur and Phaiding and in the diversion section between Jatinga-Lampur.
The NF Railway has cancelled 15612 DN Silchar – Guwahati Express, 55616 DN Silchar – Guwahati Fast Passenger and partially cancelled 25658 DN Silchar - Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express between Silchar and Guwahati, 12504 DN Agartala – Bangalore Cantt Humsafar Express between Agartala and Kamakhya, 15659 UP Sealdah – Agartala Kanchanjungha Express between Guwahati and Agartala.
Several landslide incidents also being reported in Dima Hasao district on Thursday.
Two persons had died in landslides at Mahur area under Haflong sub division in the hill district on Thursday and 166 houses were fully damaged.
On the other hand, over thousands passengers have been stranded at Lumding railway junction after NF Railway suspended several trains.
The passengers alleged that, the railway authority hasn’t provided adequate facilities to the stranded passengers.
“Many passengers stranded here (Lumding), but the railway authority hadn’t provided drinking water, foods to the passengers,” a passenger said.
The passengers also alleged that, passengers have faced many problems due to power cut and they demanded the railway authority to provide drinking water, foods to the passengers.
