Rajinikanth meets RMM members, to announce his political stand soon
Chennai/UNI: Actor Rajinikanth on Monday met the office-bearers and district Secretaries of Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) and later said he would disclose his political stand (whether entering politics or not) as soon as possible.
Talking to reporters in front of his Poes Garden residence after a nearly 90-minute meeting with them in his Ragavendra Kalyana Mandapam, he said he had elicited the views of the RMM members.
"I also expressed and shared my thoughts with them," he said.
"During the meeting, the RMM members agreed to abide by whatever decision I take regarding my political foray. I will soon announce my decision as soon as possible', he added.
Meanwhile, in the closed door meeting, Rajinikanth interacted with the RMM members, including district secretaries on why they want him to enter politics, start a political party and contest the Assembly elections due to 4-5 months time.
After the meeting, RMM members expressed divergent views on Rajini's political foray. While a section insisted that he should announce his political entry and form his own party, some of them cited his health condition, the long rigours of travel and the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic and said they would abide by whatever decision taken by the actor.
The members exuded confidence that he would make a good decision.
After waving to the scores of RMM members, who had gathered outside the meeting venue, Rajini left for his residence.
It may be recalled that Rajinikanth had on the 2018 New year eve announced that he would enter politics, float a new party and contest all the 234 seats in the 2021 Assembly elections, while ruling out contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
"My entry into politics is certain. This is the compulsion of time. In the next state assembly polls, I will start my own political party, and contest in all the 234 seats in Tamil Nadu", he had then said.
Since then he has been keeping his fans and RMM members guessing and was yet to start a party.
