Rajiv Bindal becomes Himachal Pradesh BJP president
Shimla/UNI: Former Himachal Pradesh Assembly speaker and senior BJP leader Rajiv Bindal was elected as the new state party unit president unanimously, here on Saturday.
Union Cabinet Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal announced his name at peterhoff hotel here this afternoon as new president of HP BJP state unit, replacing former legislator Satpal Singh Sati.
Bandal held the speaker post for two terms.
Bindal, who filed his nomination at party state office Deep Kamal on Jan 17, 2020, elected for the post unopposed in grand ceremony held at state Government guest house Peterhoff here.
Bindal, son of the late Vaid Balmukund Bindal, was born on 12 January 1955 at Solan.
Bindal began his public life after winning 2000 assembly bye-election from Solan Assembly seat, which he retained in 2003 and 2007.
After the Solan constituency got reserved, he contested elections from Nahan in Sirmaur district and got elected consecutively in 2012 and 2017 elections.
He was Health and Family welfare minister between 2007 and 2012 in Prem Kumar Dhumal cabinet.
Bindal has held the office of Chairperson of Municipal Committee of Solan from 1995-2000 and also appointed Chairman of HP State Pollution Control Board.
Chief Minster Jai Ram Thakur Union Minister of State (MoS) for Finance & Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur, Former state president Mr Satpal Singh Satti, Member of Parliament Ramswroop Singh and party national secretary Sunil Devdhar were remained present.
