RG Kar rape-murder: Amid CBI probe, Kolkata Police shares its factcheck on fracture, 150 mg semen and other claims

Kolkata/IBNS: The Kolkata Police has come out with a list of fact checks after several information, which the administration claims to be fake, have started trending on social media related to the rape and murder of 31-year-old post graduate medical student at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is facing an unprecedented outrage from people on social media over the incident, on Friday claimed several fake videos allegedly made through AI (Artificial Intelligence) have been circulated on social media.

The Chief Minister has claimed several YouTubers have made fake videos related to the incident that has sent shockwaves across the country.

Take a look at some of the fact checks provided by police

1. Fractures

The autopsy, which was videographed in front of a magistrate, did not mention any fracture. Police have rejected the claim that the lady trainee doctor had got its pelvic girdle fracture.

2. 150 mg semen

Over the last few days, it has been widely circulated on social as well as mainstream media that 150 mg semen was found in the dead doctor's body suggesting a gangrape as some doctors have claimed it would be impossible to have that quantity from one individual.

Kolkata Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyal told the media that the information was untrue.

The CP said, "Someone said 150 gm semen was found. I don't know where they have found this kind of Information. And it is circulating in the media in all kinds of forms. People are tempted to believe it and they are trying to create confusion among the people."

3. Unnatural Death row

Social media was abuzz with the report of 'Unnatural Death' while the junior doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata's major state-run hospital.

Goyal on Friday claimed 'Unnatural Death' includes all incidents like suicide, murder, accident as per the law.

"Unnatural death case is a natural process. Murder is an unnatural death. When there is no immediate complaint, you have to do an inquest. An inquest is preceded by an unnatural death case.

"So, I don't see why it is being said that by registering an unnatural death case, we wanted to hush up the matter and make it look like a suicide case," the CP said as quoted by NDTV.

4. Names of suspects linked to a politician

Even on the day of the vandalism of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Vineet Goyal had lashed out at the media for linking the doctor's colleague with one politician with the surname Mahapatra.

Goyal on Friday again turned down linking any suspect to a top-ranked politician.
