Moscow, Dec 24 (IBNS): Amid huge 'Modi-Modi' chants clubbed with a grand felicitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the Indian community in Moscow while making a strong pitch for India-Russia ties which according to him go beyond politics, diplomacy, trade & commerce and stated that Russia has always stood beside his country as a "friend."
During his address at the 'Friends of India' event in Moscow, Modi said Russia has always stood beside India as a "friend."

"When they stood by us in times of war, our soldiers won the day. When superpowers ruled the world, Russia always stood by India," said he.

Modi started his speech by praising the Russian artists who performed Indian culture at the beginning of the event.

Modi also remembered former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the event.

Praising the 'Garba' performance by Russian artists, the Indian PM who hails from Gujarat said, "People in Gujarat should learn Garba from the Russian people."

Mod said, "India and Russia share a strong relation not just in terms of diplomacy or politics, but the way Russia attempts to understand the Indian culture, enhances the bond between these two countries even more."

He also made a pitch to encourage Russian tourists to visit India.

The Indian Prime Minister did not lag behind in praising the growth of his country in all sectors.

He said, "Foreigners used to see India as a petty market in earlier times but now they see India as a manufacturing hub. We are working in that direction to make India a manufacturing hub."

He said, today India plays an  important role in global decision.

"The whole world is talking about India's economic progress. IMF, World Bank, Rating agencies--Everybody says India is the fastest growing major economy," the Indian PM said.

Modi said, the youth of India have woken up.

"The strength of 1.25 crore Indians is that if each one takes a step, India takes 1.25 crore steps ahead," said he.

He urged the Indian community to help curb global terrorism.

"For 30 years, India told the world terrorism is an enemy of humanity. At that time, the world didn't listen to us; they thought this is our problem. But today the antics of terrorists have horrified the world and the world has been forced to listen to India," said the Indian PM.

Modi concluded his speech by saying that his visit to Russia was short but was a fruitful one and thanked the country's citizen and President Vladimir Putin for the warm welcome extended to him.

As Modi visited Russia for the 16th annual India-Russia Summit, both countries on Thursday signed 16 agreements across diverse sectors-including the manufacturing of nuclear reactors, solar energy plants, railways and helicopter.
