Saradha scam: Calcutta HC withdraws interim protection to former Kolkata top cop Rajeev Kumar

Kolkata, Sept 13 (IBNS): The Calcutta High Court on Friday vacated its order which granted former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar protection from arrest in the Saradha cheat fund scam.

According to media reports, the court also rejected Kumar's prayer for quashing of the CBI notice seeking his appearance for questioning in the case.

Service of notice by the CBI cannot be termed as mala fide, the Kolkata High Court as reported by India Today.

Kumar was part of the Special Investigation Team that was formed by the West Bengal government to probe the scam before the Supreme Court had handed over the case to the CBI in 2014.

The Saradha Group went bust a few years back and left lakhs of depositors in a fix.

Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen and Saradha Group director Debjani Mukherjee were arrested in April 2013 from Jammu and Kashmir.
