New Delhi/UNI: Taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for imposition of Section 144 at his constituency Varanasi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday said the former has the 'gall' to say nothing to fear.

Referring to a news report, which quoted a Banaras Hindu University (BHU) student as saying that in 2019, Section 144 was imposed in Varanasi town for 359 days, Priyanka pointed out that it is Prime Minister's Lok Sabha constituency.

"On 359 out of 365 days in the year 2019, Section 144 was imposed in Varanasi town, the Prime Minister's own constituency and he has the gall to say that people have nothing to fear?" the Congress general secretary tweeted.

On Dec 19, Uttar Pradesh police had arrested 54 persons, including BHU students, from Varanasi, for defying the Section 144, which was imposed at a time when the protests took place against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
