New Delhi, Apr 16 (IBNS): Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit is expected contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from East Delhi constituency, media reports said.

Sheila Dikshit, who heads the party's Delhi unit, is likely to contest from East Delhi, NDTV quoting sources reported.

Her son Sandeep Dikshit will not contest the polls this time.

With no concrete decision on alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, the Congress appears to be selecting the candidates for all the seven seats.

According to NDTV reports, Congress leaders Ajay Maken is likely to contest from New Delhi, while Kapil Sibal, a sitting member of Rajya Sabha, will be the candidate from Chandni Chowk.

Sibal has represented the constituency twice earlier.

Congress-AAP alliance issue:

Congress leader Ahmed Patel earlier in the day said the 'ball' is now in the court of Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party to decide whether they will form an alliance with his party for the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi.

"We wish to set the record straight Despite opposition from our state unit, CP convinced them to work out a formula to collaborate with AAP in Delhi
But they insisted for seats in Haryana Our proposition still stands, the ball is in their court," Patel tweeted.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said his party is still 'open' to form an alliance with Aam Aadmi party to fight the Lok Sabha polls.

Gandhi said the alliance between the two parties will ensure 'rout of the BJP' from the national capital.

"An alliance between the Congress & AAP in Delhi would mean the rout of the BJP. The Congress is willing to give up 4 Delhi seats to the AAP to ensure this. But, Mr Kejriwal has done yet another U turn! Our doors are still open, but the clock is running out," Gandhi tweeted.

The first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha polls was held on Apr 11.

Six more phases are left.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
