Shopian/IBNS: Two terrorists were gunned down by security forces during an encounter in Shopian region of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

The identities of the killed terrorists are not known.

Kashmir Zone Police tweeted: "#SugooShopainEncounterUpdate: So far 2 unidentified #terrorists killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice."

Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended in the area to prevent rumours.

With these killing a total of 24 militants were killed in different encounters during the past two weeks.

Officials said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a joint CASO at village Sugoo in Shopian following a tip off about the presence of militants in the wee hours today.

After sealing all exit points, security forces launched house-to-house search, they said.

However, when the troops were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, source said adding security forces also retaliated and in the ensuing gun fight two militants were killed.

A police spokesman said the operation was going on when the reports last came in.
