SIT to probe Sunanda Pushkar murder: Delhi Police
New Delhi, Jan 7 (IBNS): A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will now probe the murder of Sunanda Pushkar, Delhi Police chief BS Bassi said on Wednesday.
Bassi said Pushkar's husband and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor could be questioned again in connection with the case.
A day after the Delhi police registered a murder case in connection with the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar, Tharoor has alleged that cops had beaten up his domestic help to force him to state that the former Union Minister had murdered his wife.
Tharoor, in his letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, alleged that four police officers had assaulted Narayan Singh, his domestic help, during interrogation on November 7 and 8 last year. They allegedly pressurised him to make a statement that he and Tharoor had murdered Sunanda.
"This is unacceptable and unlawful," the letter said demanding action against the 'guilty' officers.
Copies of the letter were made available to media.
The fresh twist to Sunanda Pushkar's death case came after Delhi police registered a case under section 302 of the IPC on Tuesday following a medical report that Pushkar died of suspected poisoning.
Police Commissioner Bassi, however, said it was not yet clear whether Pushkar was injected poison forcibly or was made to consume poison.
The medical report was prepared by experts of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)..
The 52-year-old woman was found dead in a suite at the Leela Palace hotel in South Delhi on January 17, 2014.
The incident took place a day after her Twitter spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over an alleged affair with her husband, Shashi Tharoor, who was then a Union Minister.
