Sitharaman talks defence cooperation with China and Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Apr 29 (UNI): Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday met her Chinese counterpart General Wei Fenghe in the Kyrgyz capital and discussed many issues of bilateral defence cooperation, including exchange of defence delegations, promoting military training and joint training.

The minister also discussed with chief of general staff of Kyrgyzstan, Raimberdi Duishenbiyev, issues such as training, capacity building, military technical cooperation with the central Asian republic.

They discussed assistance to Kyrgyz Level II Field Hospital for UN deployment, according to the Indian Embassy here.

Sitharaman is attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) defence ministers meeting. She is in Bishkek on a three-day visit.

The SCO defence ministers will explore ways to boost security cooperation among the eight member countries in the wake of emerging security challenges in the region.

India is keen on deepening its security-related cooperation with SCO and its Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (RATS).
