Six pilgrims killed in stampede during Maha Pushkaralu in Andhra Pradesh

Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Jul 14 (IBNS) At least six pilgrims have been killed and several injured in a stampede during a religious festival on the banks of a river in the Rajahmundry district of Andhra Pradesh, reports said.

The festival, "Maha Pushkaralu", celebrates rivers and draws huge crowds for taking holy dips.

The festival occurs once every 144 years.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telengana counterpart K  Chandrasekhar Rao also took dips on Tuesday morning in rivers considered holy in their states.
