New Delhi, June 19 (IBNS): Taking oath in the Lok Sabha, Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq refused to say Vande Mataram as the chant was against 'Islam'.

After taking oath as the MP of the 17th Lok Sabha, Barq said: "As far as Vande Mataram is concerned, it is against Islam and so we cannot follow it."

Several parliamentarians started chanting "Vande Mataram" and "Jai Shree Ram" as the SP leader made the comment.

The Monsoon session of the Lok Sabha started on Monday.

This is the first session of the Parliament since the results of the Lok Sbaha polls were declared.

Owaisi and 'Allahu Akbar' episode in LS:

Amid 'Jai Shree Ram ' chants, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday took oath in the Parliament.

The chants could be heard as Owaisi was walking down the floor of the Parliament to take his oath.

However, Owaisi, while taking his oath, was quick in reacting to the situation and said, "Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Takbeer Allahu Akbar, Jai Hind."

"It is good that they remember such things when they see me, I hope they will also remember the constitution and deaths of children in Muzaffarpur," Owaisi was quoted as saying by India Today.
